Why would you want to erase your web browser history? The answer is... to keep prying eyes from seeing where you have been on the Internet. It's like leaving bread crumbs for others to see what you've been up to.
In most instances, this would not be a big issue especially on a home computer. Leaving a trail for others to find the sites you have visited can lead to some Internet security risks.
If hackers access your computer, they can see where you have been. This includes passwords and account information if you neglected to log off the site before you closed the browser window.
To begin erasing your browser history with Firefox:
· Locate the Tools at the top of your browser window and click on it
· Click on Options, then thePrivacy tab
· You now have a few actions you can take. You will see the words "Firefox will" with a field box where you can choose: Remember History, Never Remember History, or Use Custom Settings for History.
The first two choices are self explanatory but the third option gives you more choices. If you Use Custom Settings for History:
· Select Automatically Start Firefox in a Private Browsing Session. This setting will keep your browsing history private. If this isn't what you wish, you can make any other choice you want.
· You can erase your history at any time so if you select the option of having Firefox remember your history for a number of days, you can let Firefox delete the history after that time period, or do it manually or let your antivirus/antispyware program automatically do it for you when you schedule it.
To manually delete your browser history, follow the steps above to go to your Privacy tab
· In the middle of the page click on the link in blue that reads Clear Your Recent History.
· A drop down menu appears and gives you a choice of the time frame for deleting the history. You can select now, today, the last few hours or everything.
